In celebration of Yuri’s Night, Chasing Atlantis released a new trailer that yesterday was exclusive to those who participated in one of the over 300 parties around the world to celebrate humanity’s entry into the final frontier.
Today we are releasing the trailer online! Be sure to check it out!
In a press conference today, An announcement was made that the Mars Curiosity Rover has discovered that Mars once supported a habitable environment. Very cool news as that means that, at one time, life could have existed on the Red Planet.
Now there has been confusion over the announcement. Not to add to this confusion, the rover has NOT discovered life itself either in the past or present, but rather the rover has confirmed that the planet supported conditions that could’ve given rise to life.
The news is particularly exciting to us as during our recent North America Tour, we were able to sit down with Chris Voorhees of Planetary Resources who served as Chief Engineer for mechanical assembly, integration and testing of the Mars Science Laboratory that makes up the Curiosity Rover. It’s very cool to think that we will be able to share with you the insights of somebody who has helped to make this discovery possible!
Check the link above for the article on www.space.com about the Mars discovery!
In my other life, I work at Simon Fraser University in Residence Life. It’s an awesome gig. I get to work in a community of nearly 2000 students and family members who are all working toward incredible goals and dreams AND I get to incorporate my other projects, such as Chasing Atlantis, into the community here at the University such as when we interviewed SFU professor Howard Trottier last month. Another one of those overlaps between my space life and my University life recently happened with the SFU student newspaper. This week’s edition was a “Space” edition and they sought me out to talk about Chasing Atlantis. You can check out the article by clicking here or the title above.
You may have seen some people dressed up like this at Comicon!
CA Team (Mike and Paul in Tees) with interviewees Elaine, Adam and Ray (left to right)
If you see people running around in Chasing Atlantis Tees during the day or later this evening. Be sure to stop by and say hello. We have been doing interviews talking to folks at the convention about SPAAAACE and Science Fiction and in general sharing the #geeklove
I’ve been stationed here back in Vancouver but surfing the Twitterverse keeping up with the #torontocomicon and #comicon traffic. If you’re on twitter, be sure to follow those tags as well as #chasingatlantis to connect with us!
The team is, as of this very moment, about to line up for the Star Trek the Next Generation Reunion Panel! I’m so Jealous! In the meantime I’m watching the show on Netflix #nextbestthing
We are going to be setup at Toronto Comicon this weekend! You have the chance to interact with our team, and even get interviewed and/or end up in the film credits! Plus we are running a cool promo this weekend during ComicCon to win a trip to SPAAAAAACE through I Dream of Space
ComicCon Weekend Promo
If you’re at the Toronto Comicon, be sure to Tweetup with us to find Paul and the camera crew. We’d love to geekout with you!
We survived! We successfully made it back to Canada, but not first before making three stops along the West Coast.
We left Florida following our interviews with Ryan Kobrick and John Horan in Florida. During that post we talked about struggles with getting into the new Atlantis Facility. That unfortunately didn’t pan out. We did get amazing footage right under the wing of Atlantis during her roll out but we thought it would be cool to see Atlantis all shrink wrapped and getting prepped for public display this Summer. Alas, NASA was touchy to have Atlantis filmed in such a state and we had no choice but to respect their wishes on that one. Nonetheless, some incredible adventures still awaited us on our next stop: San Francisco
Sun Rise over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco
Today was the first day of our epic North America tour. We were able to sit down with Toronto Grade 1 student, Clara Mooney and her family. Clara is one of the brightest young people I have ever met. She spent the morning with us talking about her love of space, her Chemistry science fair project, her favorite episodes of start trek, and all things geek.
I was really glad to be able to meet Clara. She reminded me of where I started my space adventure at a very young age also watching episodes of Star Trek and having planet models adorning my room. We have had several opportunities to speak to those who have worked for decades in the space program and have even since retired from NASA. Many of them spoke of a childhood inspiration which guided their careers toward the stars. If we could go back in time and interview these individuals as a child, myself included, I think they would all share a great deal in common with this extraordinary young girl.
I’m stoked to show the very fun and very cool interview that Clara did with us. She will be joining the many other amazing crew we have had the privilege of meeting during our chase of Atlantis and will be among the film’s interviews. In the meantime, Clara’s “Chasing Atlantis” tagline!!
In case you missed this piece of awesomeness, Commander Chris Hadfield, whom we had the privilege of interviewing for Chasing Atlantis, connected live with William Shatner while Chris is on board the International Space Station
For those of you who have been following Chasing Atlantis, you’ll know that one of the interviews that we are most proud of is with Commander Chris Hadfield, Canadian Astronaut and soon-to-be commander of the International Space Station. Commander Hadfield inspired me when I was very young with an interview discussing the fragility of Earth as seen from Orbit. That theme is continued in this article where the astronaut calls for Peace from Space
To ring in the New Year we had an idea. Chasing Atlantis is a film about how people are inspired by space and space exploration. But it is also about the pursuit of one’s passion and the journey that can lead you on. In light of this, we want to hear more about what YOU are pursuing this year through our YouTube Challenge. It doesn’t have to be space related. We just want to know what you are passionate about. We are doing the project to inspire others to also pursue their own dreams/interests this year AND we will be using some of the videos in the film! Be sure to re-post the video on our Facebook page and send us an e-mail at youtubechallenge@chasingatlantis.com if you put one up! We hope to see a whole bunch of them online! Happy 2013!!
