Behind the Scenes with Star Trek Continues

Hey Chasers!

I’ve always dreamed of stepping through the screen onto the bridge of the star ship Enterprise. Well, I had that opportunity recently because of a gracious invitation from the cast and crew of Star Trek Continues.

Star Trek Continues is a Webby Award winning independent fan production which revisits the Original Star Trek series. But this is no ordinary fan production. The sets are built to the original blue prints from the former Desilu studios, the cast and crew are all professionals, and each episode costs $100K to produce. Essentially, it IS the canon continuation of the series. Vic Mignogna, Kirk and creator of the series, crossed paths with us while we in were at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention this past August and suggested we come by the studio to see the Enterprise sets.

We met with Vic and the cast and crew this past February just as they were completing production on their 7th episode. Standing on the edge of the turbolift, Vic asked me to yell “doors!” which calls for the crew to open the doors before you.The TV screen has melted away and you are in the corridors of the USS Enterprise. Vic noted that many tour guests often freeze at this point as if they need to remind themselves that they can actually step into the 3rd dimension – this is real.

My experience was exactly what I hoped it would be. In my imagination, stepping onto the Enterprise was not just about the ship, it was about the crew. You wanted that sense of adventure, camaraderie, and a shared wonder for exploration. The STC team is that crew. We have never felt so welcomed on a shoot. I want to share a sample of what meeting these fantastic people was like.  We put together a behind the scenes look at Star Trek Continues on board the USS Enterprise with her cast and crew which you can check out below. Star Trek Continues is also currently running an IndieGoGo campaign closing shortly on May 4th. Vic himself funded the entire first episode as a proof of concept. After successfully funding the first seven episodes on Kickstarter, the series is now looking to produce more and needs support from the fan community to produce these incredible episodes. As a fellow indie fan production ourselves, we are proud to promote their work and their campaign.

You can find Star Trek Continues IndieGoGo page here:

The Star Trek Continues website, hosts all their episodes can be found at StarTrekContinues.com. If you haven’t seen these yet, you HAVE to watch them. It will blow your brain.

Finally, I introduce you to the cast and crew of STC as we talk about Star Trek, space, and belonging. As Vic says in the video, “we all have a universe within us.” A huge thank you to the Star Trek Continues team especially Vic Mignogna, Matt Bucy, Kasey Shafsky, Lisa Hansell, Cassandra Tuten, Donald Huston, and Todd Haberkorn for helping us explore ours. May we call continue to boldly go!
